PERSONAL DETAILS

DESCRIPTION:
Standing at a full six foot seven, and rather muscular, the Rev is, even at 57, a rather intimidating figure. He has blonde hair, often cut short, and naturally a bit spiky, and it is normally unkempt and some wonder if a comb has ever touched it. Trailing down his face are a pair of thin and short sideburns that lead into a scruffy beard. Atop this beard is a mouth often twisted into a psychotic, somewhat murderous, grin. Unless it's just a nice, normal smile, he's fully capable of those too. Just not often. Atop this mouth is a nose. His nose is kinda pointed, like a right triangle, and he has a fairly decent sense of smell thanks to this fact. Further up, he wears a pair of circular spectacles over blue eyes. Hanging over these eyes, which are often akin to the eyes of a killer, are a pair of thick blonde eyebrows. The Rev tends to wear a black shirt, with the reversed collar of a preacher or priest, with a black jacket hanging over the shirt. Dangling from his neck is usually a cross necklace, made of gold, and polished almost as obsessively as he carves crosses into other things. Aside from physical appearance, the Rev has a manly baritone, often softly-spoken, though when in the heat of the moment, he can certainly bark a powerful bark.

PERSONALITY:
They don't call him the Mad Minister for nothing; Rev is quite plainly insane. From his multiple obsessions with demons, crosses, and the number seven, to his generally aggressive responses to nearly every problem, often fulfilled almost casually, he is clearly a psychopath. But that's fine, because no matter how insane he is, he always has his morals to fall back on. Because even through all of his crazy, and all of his violence, he's still an upright man, a man of religion, and a man bound by honor. If he says it, it shall be done, no matter how long it takes; his word is as sound as a pound, as the saying goes. Chivalry is another of his concerns, and he is before all else a proper gentleman. Just a strange and eccentric gentleman. That said he is also bound by religion; "Thou shalt not kill." Not even in self-defense would he intentionally take the life of anyone, be it a demon hunter, a misguided civilian, or even an unpossessed ritualist. That in mind, however, he's become somewhat desensitized to accidental deaths that he may or may not unintentionally cause while on the job, to the point he can usually shrug off anything but a fallen comrade, on the principle that it was an accident. "Oops, didn't mean to embed my massive cross into your skull. I'll send some roses to your family, I guess...?" He also has the compulsion to pray extensively both before and after each mission, and will, time permitting, always kill demons with a quick prayer, before the often grandiose coup de grace. And it's always a coup de grace; he may slaughter the technically undead souls of the damned, but he does it with class.

After a few threads, there are some notable aspects of his personality that should be expanded on. For starters, his relationship with his children. Rev is a father, yes, and he is a proud father. His kids are as important to him as his religion, if not more, and that's already far greater than his concern for his own safety and life. He would protect his children from anything through any means necessary. Though to be honest, he's a bit of an embarrassment to them, especially when he does LEGITIMATE, IF NOT OVER-THE-TOP things in public, such as slaying a vengeful Ritualist janitor union, ONE BY ONE, to protect his daughter from assassination. In addition, his love for his fellow Templars can be seen as very strong, though nowhere near his love for his children. It is, however, similar, in that both are of a very fatherly sort. While he rarely shares the battlefield with his fellow comrades, he does tend to communicate with them outside battle, and he quite enjoys them. They're all like his little children, in a way... EVEN THE OTHER OLD MEN ARE LIKE HIS CHILDREN. 8D METAPHORICALLY, I MEAN.

HISTORY:
The Smith family, or rather, this particular strand of Smiths, has long been associated with two things; one, the first-born son of every generation was to become a clergyman. No exceptions. It was the God-given duty of them all. Furthermore, this son was to be named after his father. No exceptions. The second? This was a family that had long served the Knights Templar. Ever since the first Templar of the Smith family, Jan Smith, joined the order, in 1759, it has been the longstanding tradition for each firstborn male to take on this responsibility as well. And they were trained hard. From birth, they were always among the first to walk, the first to talk, because they were so extensively taught even THOSE basic skills. As they neared the age of five, they were put through a regimen, daily, of combat training, archery (later, firearms), endurance, as well as hours of worship and religious duty and training, finally ending with lesson intended to make them more cultures, civilized. By ten, they were ready to go out with their fathers, hunting for demons in the real world. By eighteen, they went with them into Inferis. In two to three years, they were all independent, working for the Templars at the youngest ages possible. It was selective breeding, birthing children almost expressly for the purpose of giving them the experience and strength to become exceptionally gifted Knights at a young age, thus carrying on the family line, ever since Jan's wife brought into this world Adrianus Aloysius Elia Gerlach Smith I.

And so it was for Adrianus Aloysius Elia Gerlach Smith VII. Born in his family's native Amsterdam, in 1954, young Adrianus, who would later be known as The Rev, The Mad Minister, or the Deadly Dutchman, was but a baby. But he was a baby who was destined for many, many great things... But all in due time, all in due time. For now, he was a small child, the first of Adrianus VI. At this infantile age, nobody could predict just how talented he would become later in life, and indeed, they couldn't have fathomed it had they tried. He was certainly a blessed child.

Per usual, he was brought up with Knighthood in mind, his father already a rather well-known Templar, amongst their inner circles. As a Templar in training, he had access to quite a few small weapons, which he was trained extensively in, as well as beginning his formal training in Wing Chun, Krav Maga, and Combat Sambo at this time. He was seven. Within three years, he'd gained enough skills and combat prowess to accompany his father on hunts for ritualist cults and suspected demon possessions. He saw little action personally, until one day, when a simple cult cleansing became a bit more escalated. One of the ritualists had managed to not only summon a demon, but wrest control of it, and entered Inferis through a tear. This was something that had to be stopped, so the young Rev and his father, as well as four other Templars, entered as well, not expecting what would come next; they'd been ambushed by a group of demons, perhaps twenty-strong. It was a brutal fight, and as the five knights fended off the majority of the demons, a lesser demon slipped by them, going after young Adrianus. Teeth bared, claws reeking of blood, it was a rather frightening spectacle for the ten year old lad. Years later, this very fight would be the spark that lit his fuse, as he slowly fell into obsession and madness. But for now, he drew the silver dagger that his father had given him, and trained him to use, with a slightly cocky grin on his small childish face. The demon swung a punch, he ducked it, but took an uppercut to the stomach. His eyes widened in pain, as a spurt of blood came from his mouth. He hadn't expected the demon to be quite so strong. His stomach still bears scars from where the claws had cut into his body. He quickly rose, however, and as the demon lunged again, he thrust forth his hand, wrist curled inward, who was at least a bit surprised by the odd counter-attack. At least, he was surprised until the beast uttered a cry of anguish, as the child's wrist snapped forward, revealing the dagger, as the silver burned into its flesh. He'd honestly figured it was just a knife, but it seemed the demon was harmed by it. Cool.

He grasped his knife in a firmer grip, and charged now at the demon, still in shock about being harmed in such a way, by a little brat. Bringing the knife down, the silver blade cut neatly into the beast's flesh, and retracting the blade, a sharp chop of the hand snapped the demon's arm like a twig, as he brought the knife down again, severing it, before taking the blood to the demon's throat, stabbing through it, before pulling back, effectively slitting its throat from the inside out. The demon couldn't verbally growl anymore, but its face, as it lunged at our young protagonist... Pure rage. But the child, surprisingly, was unafraid. Indeed, he took from around his neck his cross necklace, and held it out at the demon, forcing the beast backwards. A clever grin on his face, he drew his wrist back, as if to hurl the cross at the demon, who flinched, ducking down, as the cross sailed straight upward into the air; a bluff. Little Adrianus sailed forward, flipping over the demon, as he slammed his foot down hard on its exposed back, shattering its spine. Twisting in midair, he brought down his hand, cracking its neck, as bits of bone were expunged from the gaping throat wound. And, with only a touch of a flair for the theatric, Rev brought down his dagger hard for the coup de grace; in a single stroke, he cleanly severed the demon's badly mangled head from its body, making his landing in perfect timing, as he kicked his shoe aside, his bare foot coming down on the demon's head. The beast was dead, as it melted into ashes, and what he could only presume was the invisible force he'd been told about, soul energy.

The team of Templars soon finished off the other demons, about that time, with one casualty, and his father and another Templar being injured seriously, but not overly so. As they returned from Inferis, the elder Adrianus took his son for ice cream, to celebrate his hard-earned victory, after treating his and the boy's wounds. That was but the first notch on the long rope of Rev's demon-slayings. Over the next few years, he and his father bonded well on multiple excursions hunting their demonic foes, ever more often entering Inferis to do so. Ever keeping up his training, he'd soon mastered five martial arts, adding Karate and Brazilian Jiujitsu to his list, as his mind also expanded, with a five-star Templar's education. His combat experience was soon raised to a fairly strong level, and at the age of twenty, he was allowed into the Templar's order, as a Knight Templar. This was quite the prestigious honor, one must imagine, and he was thrilled to learn of such. Soon after, he was asked to transfer from his native home in the Netherlands to a more convenient location, closer to a Tear- Washington D.C.

He packed his bags, said goodbye to his parents, with a sad smile, as he prepared for the opportunities ahead of him. As he arrived at Ellis Island, seeing the Statue of Liberty come into view, he realized that America was a great place for a man of his morals and values; liberty, justice, righteousness. He saw all of that reflected in the green face of Lady Liberty. He had his paperwork filled out, and soon moved south to D.C., where he purchased a house, and soon had some possessions and Templar equipment shipped over. The next step in his master plan was the purchase of a second house, which he took some time with, and converted it into a church. He then went into a secret laboratory the Templars possessed, to be augmented for the first time; they injected him with a serum that would modify his genetic code to turn his sweat to pure water, which would be autonomously blessed as he sweat, such to the point he could technically sweat holy water. The Deadly Dutchman then began to make quite a reputation for himself in the states...

After that first demonic interaction, you should remember that it was then that he began his descent down a slippery slope to psychosis. Well, by this point, he was at least half-crazy. He'd go out on missions with a team of five or six, armed to the teeth, and in the process of hunting demons, he would go to mad lengths, recklessly chasing after them and killing them until they were well and truly dead. In the time that took, well... He usually came back with grievously wounded teammates, who'd happened to get in the way of him and a demon. Smacked with his cross, run over by his motorcycle, accidentally had their arm blown off by a shotgun blast. He was soon marked with a reputation for accidental friendly fire, and fewer and fewer people wanted to work with him. Eventually, it came down to just him and one woman, in the medical division of the Templar, who would go on field assignments with him. Her name was Ashley Riggs, and she somehow had a knack for not being killed by Rev while he was on assignment.

They worked together for a few years, before he popped the question; would she marry him? After being around someone for so long, she had to say yes. The wedding took place seven months later, and they were happily wed July 7th, in 1977. As time went on, alas, Ashley suffered a nasty injury to her leg, when a demon crushed the bones, and she was wheel-chair bound for a while, in addition to retiring from her career as a Templar, to move back to her hometown in Rivertown, Virginia. Following suit, Rev moved with her, forming a new church in Rivertown, and purchasing a new house. It was there, in 1988, that Ashley's water broke, and Rev rushed her to the hospital on his Crusadermobile. Because pregnant women and motorcycles and reckless drivers DEFINITELY mix. Somehow, she made it there, unscathed, and little Lisa Smith was born that day, followed seven years later by the birth of Adrianus Aloysiu Elia Gerlach VIII. In similar fashion to his father, and his father's father, and so on, Adrianus was trained personally by Rev. As the two children grew, however, Rev was far too absorbed into his work; he occasionally forgot he had kids, even if only for that moment or so after waking up. His daughter, eventually, realized he was a crazy workaholic who was crazy, and figured, based on his OBVIOUS insanity, that the demons he occasionally spoke of weren't real, and perhaps her mother just went along with it to humor him. His son seemed reluctant, like he didn't want to become a Templar or a reverend... He always seemed to hang around the kitchen, watching his mother cook in odd curiosity. But he wasn't destined to be a chef, tradition mandated he had to be a warrior of the lord! It was hard work trying to be a good father to his kids, and raise them with proper knowledge of his occult duty... Lisa eventually tried to get him into a therapist's office, but he erm... Well, let's just say the therapist was the one who ended up committed to an institute, in the long run...

But since having children, his life hasn't changed all that much, and he still hunts demons. He just has to make a little bit more spare time for his family and all. And of course, his family was certainly a happy one, if not a bit erm... Unique! To the everyman, they were quite the happy herd, with Ashley having become a doctor, the Rev being a preacher at one of the larger churches in town. Then, of course, Lisa joined the CIA, and Adrianus was... Well, he was the son of a preacher man. Of course, nobody had to know that the two men of the family were knights...

Another point of interest would be the fact that the Templars had placed him as the mentor of one Laurelei Weiss- surprisingly adept at not dying!- about seven years ago, just as he'd begun the latter half of his own son's training. It was supposedly because she had a lot of potential, and he was one of the more highly experienced Templars, but honestly, he figured it was just an attempt to try and keep him from going so crazy on every mission- it was getting increasingly difficult to pass off every exploding McDonald's as a gas leak near a lit match...

Thankfully, that really won't have to happen THAT much anymore. Hasn't happened recently, anyways. What has happened recently, however, was a lovely battle in Inferis. A duel of sorts, a match of wits and power, against the semi-famed Doppelganger, Eris. Their fight quickly took a turn for the awesome, as they both displayed astounding feats of strength and ability, himself being quite impressed by Eris' ability to mimic other demons, and, as he'd soon find, himself. A splendid battle indeed. Five days later, Rev had one Damon Ruger meet and greet a Jacob Maccabee at a coffee shop, in order to observe Damon as Damon observed Jacob. Which ended humorously in him revealing his own location, and in a classic joke opening; four Templars walk into a coffee shop... On a more serious note, however, he'd truly have to watch Ruger a bit more closely; it never did well to have a man, even with his level of prowess, to be so... unsocial. It wasn't good for teamwork, not at all, and in terms of the morale it inspired... Yikes. Ah, but at least Jacob seemed like a good enough guy. Anyways, a few days later, he was enjoying a nice spot of breakfast, when his daughter, Lisa, happened to be at the same place, at the same time. A nice coincidence it was, and to celebrate it, the two decided to engage in some good old fashioned father-daughter bonding; namely, BRUTALLY PWNING N00BZ AT LAZER TAG. Fun!

*********

SKILLS:
> VERY well-armed, and fully capable of using any of his weapons.
> Quite fond of overkill. IE, carves crosses into everything, no matter how dead it may or may not be.
> He benches 700 pounds, and has the running speed of an Olympic athlete.
> Rather talented linguist, with seven languages under his belt, even if two of them are Dutch and West Frisian, and lol nobody speaks Dutch and West Frisian.
> Rather charismatic, and enjoys charming people with his mad cello and violin skeelz.
> Accomplished practitioner of Karate (7th Degree Black Belt), Brazilian Jujitsu (Brown Belt), Jailhouse Rock *, Krav Maga (4th Dan Black Belt), Wing Chun (12th Grade), Dutch Kickboxing, and Combat Sambo (2nd Vzrosliy Razryad).
> Wizened by age, has much experience.

WEAKNESSES:
> ISN'T EXACTLY MENTALLY STABLE. AT ALL.
> For a man with all the training he has, all the skills, and all the sheer ability, he lacks in planning. A lot. In fact, he has plans 1, A, and α, for all situations; "Take names and carve crosses" "Bullcrap." "Kick rocks, if legs are still attached."
> Is incredibly blind to other perspectives on anything; his opinion and beliefs aren't opinions or beliefs, but stone-set fact. And all who disagree with him must face his wrath.
> Doesn't play nice with others. Is also very awkward at small talk. "Hi, how are you today?" "I AM GOOD, CAN I CARVE A CROSS IN YOUR CHEST!? 8D"
> Incredibly reckless, to the point that he has to complete all of his missions solo, because nobody is willing to put themselves in the kind of danger that he seems to thrive on.
> While he may seem psychotic, and you'd assume he was incredibly chaotic, he is insanely bound to honor, his morals, and religion.
> Quite allergic to sulfur; as you can see, this MAY be a bit of an occupational hazard, considering Inferis and sulfur and well... Yeah.

COLOURS:
The Rev speaks his native Dutch (Green), as well as British English (Yellow), Latin (Pink), Russian (Orange), West Frisian (Lawngreen), Japanese (Darkblue), and German (Blue)

TRIVIA:

- Currently lives in Washington D.C. with his son, Adrianus Smith VIII, and his daughter, CIA Agent Lisa Smith.
- HE'S COMPLETELY, IRREVERSIBLY PSYCHOTIC. 8D But socially functional, if marginally, sooooo, it works.
- IS COMPLETELY AND TOTALLY OBSESSED WITH HOLY SYMBOLS.
- In addition to owning a large arsenal of weaponry, he's ALSO a collector of antique arms, and his collection is rather nice in size and value, boasting quite a few lovely artifacts, all obtained either from online bidding, or from the Templar archive warehouse, when permitted, and for a handsome fee per piece, seeing as these are all defunct items he doesn't have a use for.
- Quite easily becomes over-emotional when his children are involved.
- Very superstitious; believes VERY strongly in the Rule of 3s and 7s.
- Is quite a heavy eater.
- LOVES Chinese Buffets.
- Is an overprotective papa wolf.
- Very flashy and over-the-top combatant.
- Is very flattered that Eris mimicked his appearance.
- Eris is his semi-friendly rival. 8D
